We work to the social model of disability, which recognises that people are disabled more by poor design, inaccessible services and other people's attitudes than by their impairment.
We aim to empower disabled people and to develop opportunities for disabled people to participate as equal citizens.
What we do
Direct services
Over 4,000 people contact us annually.
- We publish leaflets, briefing papers and guides in alternative formats.
- We provide information on a wide variety of issues from benefit payments to problems of building access.
- Disability Wales News is our bi-monthly magazine.
Policy development
We work with the National Assembly for Wales, central government at Westminster, local authorities and the private and professional sectors to develop effective policy, practice and legislation.
We hold conferences; consultations and roadshows to ensure that disabled people and their organisations in Wales are well informed about important issues.
Member support services
With over 700 members we encourage and enable disabled people and their organisations to deal with a rapidly changing political environment.
- We provide information and training for disabled people and their organisations.
- We develop and support disability groups and networks throughout Wales.
